Tetley Tea, founded by two brothers in 1837, they started selling this beloved and sought after beverage across Yorkshire in England along with other goods. However, it would be many year (1856 in fact) until one brother parted ways and Joseph Tetley unveiled the new business - Joseph Tetley & Co, Wholesale Tea Dealers. And with this, the history of Tetley was set on a roll. With business growing from strength to strength.
In 1908 a Tea Merchant, by the name of Thomas Sullivan, sent samples of tea in little silk bags to customers which people assumed should go in the pot too and thus, the teabag was created! This happy accident influenced Tetley's when a representative from the business brought this idea back across the pond and tea bags became the new hot thing to have in Britain. It was in 1957 that Tetley then decided to add a drawstring to their bags - so you could squeeze that last drop of amazing taste without the risk of spillage!
(Believe it or not - it wasn't until 1990 that the round teabag was introduced by Tetley!)
Tetley have grown from strength to strength over a hundred years of amazing tasting tea from a little business in Yorkshire and it's now available here at Kelly's! With the great tasting original or the equally delicious decaf available. It's a must have cup of tea for tea lovers around the world.
To brew the perfect Tetley Cuppa:
1) One bag per mug is best, or one bag per person popped into a warmed teapot.
2) Add freshly boiled water, stir and gently squeeze.
3) Brew to the right strength for you, serve and enjoy!
4) Try with or without milk and sugar. (We recommend a splash of milk to make a proper 'builders brew!')
